Frequent Asked Questions
Q - Is there a charge?
A – There is NO charge to attend this meaningful tribute. Our generous sponsors and patrons, along with the Tribute Committee, have worked hard to make this a free event for our communities. Your presence at the Tribute and thanks to the Military, Police, and Fire personnel that we are honoring is the only ‘payment’ required!
Q - Are children allowed?
A – Children are welcomed and encouraged to attend this community event. Public and private school students in districts 54 and 211 have been invited to view the Tribute Friday, May 23rd with their classes. Of course, children are welcome with their families at any time throughout the course of the event as well.
Q – How do I get there?
A – The Tribute is located at the Schaumburg Flyers baseball stadium, 1999 S Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg, IL 60193. The stadium is directly off of the Elgin O’Hare expressway. Check out our MapQuest link for the best way to get to the tribute! (add mapquest link)
Q – What is the schedule of programs at the tribute?
A – Please see our ‘Calendar’ page and also our ‘daily events’ pages to find out what’s happening each day of the Tribute.
Q – Is plenty of parking available? Is parking free?
A – We have plenty of parking available for all who wish to attend the Tribute. The easiest and most abundant parking is available in the Flyers WEST parking lot. It is an easy walk across Springinsguth Road to the stadium. Handicapped parking is available directly in the stadium parking lot. There is NO charge for parking at the Tribute.
Q - Will the Tribute still be open in the event of inclement weather?
A – Absolutely. The Vietnam Traveling Wall is ready to stand in memory of our soldiers thru rain or shine, just like the original Wall in Washington DC.
Q – Will all programs still be held in the event of inclement weather?
A – We will do our best to continue our original schedule of events in the case of inclement weather. Of course, program times may change, and in case of VERY bad weather, we may have to cancel a program or two. The safety of our volunteers and performers is very important to the Committee. (But we HAVE put in a big request for LOTS of sunshine!)
Q – This event sounds GREAT! Do you need help? Can I Volunteer?
A - We will need lots of willing hands and open hearts while the Tribute is here! If you are interested in volunteering, please go to the ‘contact us’ page of our website, and send a note to our Volunteer Coordinator. We would love to have your assistance!
Q – Can I donate to help defray the cost of bringing the Cost Of Freedom Tribute to my community?
A – That would be most generous and welcome! Please see our ‘donation’ link on our hompage. Donations can be made payable to the Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates Illinois Traveling Vietnam Wall Committee. Please send your donation to Heritage Bank of Schaumburg, 1535 Schaumburg Road, #100, Schaumburg, Illinois 60194.
Q – Is my donation tax deductable?
A – We are a 501C3 charitable organization, and your donation is tax deductable. If you are mailing a donation, we will be happy to send you a receipt for your donation.
Q - Where does my donation go?
A – While the Cost of Freedom Tribute 2008 is offered to our communities free of charge, there are many expenses that go into making this event happen. Your generous donation will help defray those costs and make the Tribute more meaningful and moving for all of your neighbors in the community. At the conclusion of the event, The Tribute Committee will donate any remaining monies to a local Veterans organization.
